Ahhhh, I love the set up. It's not dull and it's not overly excessive. The contrast of city-boy, heir Fai and run-off-the-mill, down-on-his-luck Kurogane outside of the city is great. I like how Kurogane's view of corruption and pollution ties into his character of disliking dishonesty. And the sheer chemistry when they collide in the store (get it, collide?) is just....
The image of tall, grumpy store-owner Kurogane scaring children into tears is hilarious. I am excited to read more, and I feel your pain of it snowballing into a monster fic. Because I think mine will be pretty long...
