What are these mandatory check-ins?
This is not meant to be a date when you must submit the work you have been doing (although you certainly can, depending on what you and your coach have talked about). All it means is that you should shoot a quick message to your coach that says ‘I am alive and on track/not on track, and I don’t need help/desperately need help.’
That said, you should note that these check-ins are indeed mandatory! If you fail to check in each Monday, the coaches will only wait 24 hours before flagging it to the moderators. If the moderators do not hear from you in another 24 hours (so by the end of the day on Wednesday each week), we will discuss a pinch-hitter.
The last check-in takes place on a Friday (July 29th) here at the community. This is where you will state ‘I am ready/nearly ready for my posting date! I don’t have any questions/I have urgent last-minute questions.’
How do I communicate with my coach?
Your coaches will be sending you each a message here on DreamWidth in order to start the communication process. The two of you can agree to whatever form of communication most floats your boat, whether that be through email, Tumblr, here at DW, or whatever.
The only thing we ask is that you do not request a method of communication that would make your coach feel uncomfortable (a.k.a. Facebook, where you would be able to get a lot of their personal information, or cell phone, etc). Please stick to fandom-friendly methods of contact.
What will me and my coach do together?
Your coach is available to you (within reason) to answer questions about the contest, to guide you in your writing process, help you brainstorm, and help you stay on track for your posting date!
Your coach will also be available to you to look over/edit at least one draft of your work. Multiple drafts is entirely up to your coach, but they can handle one! This can happen at any point during the writing period, up to July 25th. We would ask all writers to get a draft to their coaches by this date, so that the coach can return it before the mandatory DW community check-in.
Do I have to give a draft to my coach? Even if I already have a beta?
No, this is not mandatory. If you don’t feel like you need assistance, carry on doing your thing the way you like to do your thing. The only thing that is mandatory are the check-ins with your coach on the 11th and 18th.
You are more than welcome to post your entry directly on the KuroFai community, on your personal DW journal, or even fanfiction sites like AO3 or FFN. (No Tumblr because we want your byoot-tiful entries to be reader friendly!) If you choose to post outside of the community journal, you must still make a post here on the KuroFai DW with the proper header, and with a link to your entry. This way, readers’ scores can be tallied in a fashionable matter!
If you post your entry in the community, you must use the cut tag. A few years ago, veteran olympics organizer
reikah created a user-friendly step-by-step guide on to making cut tags with pictures ”HERE. No excuse!

Some things to keep in mind!
- The posting schedule is not final and may be subject to change. If a participant withdraws and a pinch-hitter is enlisted, it pushes the prompt of theirs and their rival to the end to allow the pinch-hitter additional time to write. If writers need more time, the mods will grant an extension. Should there be schedule changes, we will make another post on DW, and will make an announcement post on Tumblr.
- Once more, posting deadline is by 11:59pm (23:59) PDT. Refer to timezone converter HERE
- Please review and follow the community guidelines. If you have questions, leave an ask in the comment!
- Writers are not allowed to vote. If you bow out, you are welcome to vote then. For pinch-hitters, please wait until all entries have been posted before placing your scores; otherwise if you are called in to write, then the no-vote rule applies as well. For coaches, we’re still assessing about your participation in voting :)
- With your assigned coach, you are only required to check in with them on the Mondays July 11th and 18th. All you have to let them know is how’s progress. That said, don’t hesitate to seek support from them! They are happy to assist you in brainstorming and beta-ing.
- Take time to cheer on your teammates! The writers from the other team! The Olympics is more fun with the team dynamics. Do read and comment on their fics. Spread the love <3

good question, and the answer is up to you! As you mentioned a preference for Team Dark, we can 'reserve' you as a Team Dark-only pinch-hitter, or if you'd rather be open, we would just slot you in wherever something came up for either team.
Which would you rather?

Tier 2 are coaches who volunteered to pinch-hit as well. But since coaches have duties during the writing period, we'll have them (like you) as the last resort pinch-hitters should more than four people need to bow out.
Hope that helps!

Sorry that you missed the chance to sign up, but we are still very glad to see you back here! I hope you'll have the time in August to show your support for the writers with reading & voting!

In the mean time, I would be happy to help if anyone needs another set of eyes?

1. How in-character was this fic?
2. How well did this fic handle the prompt?
3. How much did you enjoy this fic overall?
These are obviously going to be subjective and varies among readers, esp. for #1.
#2 is absolutely important though, because you're on a certain team (Light) and have a specific prompt. So as long as you writes something along to "These are not the droids you're looking for" with "light" elements in mind; AND focus on the relationship between Fai and Kurogane, then you've covered the basics.
