aithilin recently made a post for Team Sci-Fi for teammates to get to know each other, so CLEARLY one for Team Fantasy needs to happen.
I love how big the friending meme bloomed. Glad it sets in stone bonding time in anticipation for the Olympics. Now let us AWESOME FANTASY participants chill here as well~
Helloooo! Can't wait to chat with my teammates. OH DEAR the music question. I mentioned in my friending meme post that I tend to geek out to metal bands. And by metal I mean, uh... gothic rock and folk metal. So. Like. Nightwish and Arkona and stuff. Yeah. I will always love Evanescence. I got Fallen for my birthday when I was about 7 and that was it. I also love a handful of classical artists [Late Romantic Era ftw] and have a few Visual Kei groups I adore. I love Malice Mizer and their chamber-music-with-guitars and their tight pants. But I will listen to just about anything. My parents always listened to house music like Zero7 and and older groups like Sade so I'm surprisingly well-versed in that department. I'll also give a special mention to a group called Electrocutica, who are one of the remnants of my Vocaloid days. 'Reversus' is probably one of my favourite songs ever. I also like Rumer, Subzar, Faun, Lior, Phildel and Willow Beats and I'm going to stop there because my taste in music is a mess.
I used to have a couple Nightwish CDs! That was fun times.
These days I mostly listen to anime/game soundtracks and ambient electronica stuff. I don't know a ton of artists, tho, usually just let Pandora feed me stuff. umm, Bonobo and Jens Buchert are a couple I have CDs for.
Stuff without lyrics is preferable since I often have trouble hearing them. I was in band too, and I do also like listening to orchestral/symphonic etc music. I have a soft spot for Edvard Grieg and Modest Mussorgsky.
Ooh, I haven't heard of any of those artists except Bonobo - I'll have to check them out! I can definitely get into instrumental game soundtracks. Some of them are absolutely fabulous.
Chopin is great, ahhhh. I can't play any instruments and I have instant respect for anyone who can wrangle a nursery rhyme together, let alone Chopin! -claps hands- Oooh I love HazelnutShippingCo.'s art, so eerie and wonderful.
It's looking pretty good! I can't believe I'm actually on a team with all you awesomesauce people. As for hoarding music - pretty much. I like to pretend I have a theme but... nah.
Best use of gif ever. Gold star. I might need some help getting my feet off the ground. I've got a few definite ideas and a lot of intimidating shadowy grey areas. I think I want to go a little on the dark side with the story and worldbuilding [mwahaha] but I'm not even sure if I want to go all-out AU or keep it canon compliant. I have ideas for both. What are you guys thinking?
And gah, yes, thank you for this thread! "Nightlife", how even?
I'm currently kicking around possibilities either taking it super-literally with "canon and they find themselves in a lightless cave world", or "AU where they meet in a tavern" and haven't really been able to build an actual plot idea for either setting.
Cave-world would probably involve a feather, but to be 'fantasy' it would likely end up needing to have drow or something, which is kind of meh.
Tavern AU would probably end up some sort of quest, but then they'll have left the tavern and that's not exactly adhering to the prompt anymore.
If you go with a tavern AU you could always the quest be in the tavern maybe? Like some kind of dark demon tavern that traps lost souls and they have to figure out how to escape together.
I think I have my basic idea ironed out. Going AU this year, I think. I have figured out how I want it to begin and end, now just need to figure out that pesky middle part...
I'm always a sucker for canon-compliant, but in the end you should go with what fits easiest/best. And dark themes can be really fun too! (who's a sucker for dark!KuroFAi? I am!) What was your prompt again?
When I saw "nightlife" as a prompt the first thing I thought of was an incubus and like a sort of modern nightclub that caters to nonhumans, which would give it that touch of fantasy. Urban fantasy, my dude. It's basically a free for all.
So, um, I am actually having a hard time coming up with even a basic idea. My initial option was to revamp an idea for the olymfics two years ago to better fit 'soulmates'.
My main problem is that I want to incorporate reincarnation cause that's my jam, but if I do so, then I am most likely gonna end up writing a mini-novel. Which isn't the smartest idea looking ahead. Unless reincarnation tropes can be utilized in shorter stories? And I capable of putting in world building? ^^;;;
For the tavern AU, maybe an exciting event is going on? Somethint that is a huge custom in that world (the sky's the limit for fantasy!). Perhaps there is an outdoor venue of this tavern and a ridiculous bonfire is going on with strangers giving each others' gifts.
If you have ideas for both canon-compliant and AU, see how much you can flesh for both. I'd go with the plot idea you have more meat for, so when it is time to write, you can write it with awesome confidence in the limited time period. :D
True, true. I've always had a preference for canon-compliant fic so I think I've been developing that one more, whether meaning to or not. Still a bit eh but I'll mash it into shape quickly enough. :D
I don't know where you're going with the theme exactly, but to sort of condense the idea of reincarnation, maybe you could use a single object or event as a catalyst for their meeting and just keep the story focused on that? By the way reincarnation x soulmates sounds so cool and I am busting to read whatever you come up with.
I'm doing repairman and customer. I'm taking a lot of liberty with it, though - it never said Kurogane or Fai necessarily had to be the repairman, as long as they're the main characters, right?

As far as music goes I'm not at all picky. If I like the sounds it hoard it like a dragon.

I really love Phildel. I discovered her through a KuroFai fanart (NSFW) by hazelnutshippingco with lyrics of 'Union Stone'.
