2016 KuroFai Olympics Sign Up Post: COACHES!
So, you want to participate but you also want to let some of our newer members get their chance to shine?
You love the olympics but don't feel up to writing this year?
Have you been involved in previous olympics, other fandom contests, or have a lot of experience as a fandom writer?
Then we want YOU on our coaching team!
Coaching is a brand-new idea for the KuroFai Olympics, and so we are welcome to suggestions from our coaches on how they would like to support their team members. But here is how we would like it to go:
Zelinxia & Faren will assign a small group of writers to each coach (depending on how many coaches sign up – ideally, we would like at least 2 coaches per team).
Each writer from that group must do a brief check-in with their coach once per week, just to say that they are on track and don't need a pinch-hitter. This check-in will be mandatory for the writers. You and the writers will be given a schedule of the mandatory check-in dates.
If you don't hear from your writer on the check-in date, we would like you to flag it to the moderators so we can also try to reach out to the writer and make a decision about how to move forward.
Each coach must be available to their writers for occasional questions or guidance (within reason). You should have a way for your writers to get in touch with you, such as an email address or Tumblr account (or similar) that you will regularly check on during the writing period.
Each coach must be open to beta-reading one draft from each of their writers. This part is not mandatory from the writers! If they have a beta they usually work with already, or don't feel the need for a beta, they don't have to send you a draft. The only mandatory part is the check-ins once per week. But if your writer wants to send you a draft, you should be available for that and able to get it back to them within 2-3 days.
You are not expected to be able to beta a draft with only 2-3 days before the writer's starting date. A reasonable expectation would be that if a writer wants you to beta-read, they should submit a draft to you at least one week before their posting date.
Anything else would be completely negotiable between the coach and the writer! (Or the moderators, if you need a helping hand!)
Coaches will NOT be allowed to vote on the completed fics.
You are also NOT allowed to directly assist by writing portions of an entry. Writers must write by themselves - and of course, you shouldn’t have the burden of co-writing.
You are allowed to also sign-up as a pinch-hitter, if you would like to! If you would like to be both coach and pinch-hitter, please let us know in this sign-up post. (a.k.a. don't double-post in both sign-up posts)
If you wind up being called upon to pinch-hit for a writer that you coached, that is okay, but please keep in mind that you will NOT be allowed to 'pick up where they left off' on a draft of an existing fic. A pinch-hitter must create a completely unique story for the prompt, rather than taking over a fic that another writer started.

Final roster is announced, and the writing period begins

First mandatory check-in with the coaches

Second mandatory check-in with the coaches
Monday 25th July
Cut-off for submitting a draft to a coach for beta-reading. After this point, it is completely up to the coaches’ discretion whether they are ok and have time to beta a draft.
Friday 29th July
Mandatory check-in date on the DW forum. There will be a 'Mandatory Check-In for Writers' post made by one of the moderators on this day, and any writer that does not sound off and reply that they are ready (or nearly ready) for their posting day, will be replaced by a pinch-hitter. If a coach is available to work with pinch-hitter this late in the game, they can say so, otherwise one of the moderators will help the pinch-hitter stay on track for their posting date.

I am putting you down as a coach, and a back-up pinch-hitter. Do you have a preference between working with Team Light or Team Dark?

So like could I vote for fics published on days 1, 2 and 3 if I coached on days 4, 5 and 6? Does that make sense?

We would love to have you on our coaching team! Do you have a preference between Team Dark or Team Light?
Our original idea was that coaches would not be able to vote on any fic, but we have decided that we will leave this up to the writers. When prompts go up, we will also ask for opinions on this topic. The writers can say whether they are comfortable with a coach from prompts 1-3 voting on the fics for prompts 4-6, and we mods will honor what the writers are comfortable with.

It really sucks to be in that position, and I'm sorry you're going through that. I hope you find a new job quickly, and you let me know if there's any way I can help.
