That's a very good question! Though since we're an international community, it's probably better to say a mid-year contest, seeing as, for me personally (and my southern hemisphere buddies) it's the middle of winter right now, ahaha.
I'd encourage a KuroFai Olympics for 2017, and I'd sure as hell participate, but I don't really have the time/wellbeing to host it myself - being in charge played merry hell with my anxiety the last time I was organising it. That said, as mod of the comm, I'd be more than happy to support anyone who'd like to run it and I'd definitely help out as much as I was able!
Awwwright, that's at least two of us - we're half way there already!
Actually, as a US-based person, what do you think is a good time of year for comps like this one in terms of university calendars/holidays, that kind of thing? I know you guys have summer holidays around nowish, but it's pretty different back in Aus...
Summer is your best bet. It's our longest break and even some jobs lax up enough for people to have free time. Schools pick back up late August and early September. I know we want time though so maybe something in the fall? October say? That'll be before things like testing and stuff really start setting in.
I'm out of school for now (no idea when I'll decide to go back for Higher education) so it makes no difference for someone like me. Got work on the week days and cleaning on weekends that I can work around, so whenever it's best for others is good for me
Ahaha, the Olympics is an institution! This would be it's... seventh? year running? It's a really fun (if a little stressful) fandom event that produces amazing fic :D
I suggested something similar one year for a 'Fusion' v.s. 'Crossover' idea, and it's a really great one, but alas the problem that was pointed out to me is that not all media is universal; we can assume everyone has read/watched/seen something e.g. Harry Potter, but we can't guarantee it.
Still! While I don't think this idea would work for the Olympics per say, it's still a fantastic idea and would make an awesome fic event, like the Harlequin Challenge was :D
Please keep this one in your pocket - you could break it out over the Christmas Holidays, or even at the start of the year when the fandom is quiet?
Honestly? Every couple of weeks or so since the end of April I'd come log in and see if the Olympfics had started. And I kept telling myself maybe it'll be next month...
This is a brilliant idea, but we've looked at it in previous years and it's not as clean cut as the theme for the Olympics needs to be... but for creating prompts to write within that theme, it's a very good one - thank you for your suggestion!
(Also I would totally love to see this as a competition/event another time of year too - anyone can run an event, and you don't have to wait for the Olympics!)
Yes! For example from harrybpotter you could use the line 'you have your mother's eyes' both writers won't have to have read the books and can interpret their own way.
But yes, definitely an idea for something down the road
All help is appreciated!! I'll put together some Expression of Interest posts for people who would like to help, and we always need pinch-hitters and beta readers too!
I would love to help out! I never mod anything before- I would have no idea what or how to do so but I would to hate to not see the olympics this year!!! So just let me know what I can do!
Thanks for volunteering to help out - that's amazing of you :D
The themes for the Olympics are usually chosen by the mods, but with a lot of input from general consensus... like, people are more than welcome to (and encouraged!) to suggest ideas, and the peeps running the event for the year just pick which one they think fits best.
The themes usually have to be something that has a 'flipside' - like, fantasy vs. scifi which is two sides to a fantastic genre, or angst vs. fluff which is two tropes that mirror each other very well. And they have to be universal as well: it has to be something that everyone in the fandom can understand easily, and can be easily incorporated into writing, as well as something that the international community is familiar with too!
If we do this, I'll put together a theme suggestion post, as well as a prompt suggestion post, once we have the theme organised :)

Team A would be 'Insert': a canon-timeline visit of the crossover's universe by the tsubasa characters
Team B would be 'Replace': an AU of the tsubasa characters in the crossover's universe

I think it's a matter of finding somebody willing to host?
