This is our second check-in, I hope you have all been making steady progress!
Once more I just wanted to make sure you are all on track and to learn exactly where you all are in the writing process.
Please comment below on your progress, if you are still expected to be ready by your assigned due date and that of course you are still participating.

Also if any of our writers needs any help in the form of research, brain storming or proof-reading just let us know; we mods will take care of the coaching! We are here to help you if need it so please reach out to us!

I think I've been making really good progress! Doing some clean ups, making sure I haven't left any loose ends, but I'll definitely be done on the expected date 👍

I'm going to be done by the 6th, but I'm not making as much progress as I'd hoped. We've had family in town, and they're taking a larger toll on my emotional state than I expected... however, I won't let it stop me! I'm into the climax of the story, and it's a lot shorter than previous years! I'm hoping to finish the first draft on Monday, and then spend the rest of the week editing and cleaning.

I had an eventful week but I made significant progress yesterday even if my arm was close to falling off from all the blood tests! I'd say I'm close to halfway, and I'm editing as I go!

Projected wordcount is blowing out as expected, but that happens to me every year so I'm not worried. I'll be nose to the keyboard today so I expect to clear the halfway mark very soon, and by the end of the weekend I should be well on the way to 2/3 done!

I might need a proofreader when I'm done but if no one is available, that's ok - I can edit on my own :3

I'm making progress, but it's not quite as much as I'd hoped. It's definitely ~going~ places, but yeah, finding the time has been waaay harder than I thought! Especially since university's just started up again this week, and am I ever on struggle street with that :I

Also, slightly intimidated by the word counts,,, I expect mine will be about 12, 000 words. I looked at past entries and some of them are like full length novels!! I'm hoping I can live up to the expectations hahaaaa,,,,,

(Oh! And one more thing! Writing from Kurogane's perspective is way harder than I thought! I think I can capture him in dialogue but the way I write naturally is quite 'fairy tale whimsical', which is so not him lmao,, does anyone have any advice on how to really make his voice come through without compromising style? If someone could give me a hand I'd be super greatful!)

Yeah, I'm having the same problem, writing from Kurogane's POV! I'm making him way too friendly, but the plot would hardly move if he was his usual crabby self.

Same omg, and sometimes I'll write something that I would normally say in my writing and be like, yikes,,, kurogane would literally never say that.

Good question tropewars... As someone who writes both, perhaps try using observational lines - he's not immune to noticing his surroundings. It can give you some of that fairy tale feel without compromising how he talks.

I've written both in the past, and I'm not perfect at it by any means, but if it helps. I find Kurogane's narrative to be similar to his dialogue, with slightly choppy sentence structure, and lots of opinions in his descriptions. He can have flowy descriptions too, as Kuro has his moments of poetry when he's contemplative. He also (in canon fics) calls Fai 'mage' and Syaoran 'kid' a lot in his head as well as out loud. I don't know if that helps, but those are the things I try to think about when I am writing his pov :)

Not very happy with my progress - I've had to put in about twenty extra hours being called in at work this week, then spent most of my day off having to catch up on sleep. left with far too little time to write. I have about 6k words, but I haven't gotten to any of the action yet... frustrating. May just call out sick Monday at this rate to have some time to write more. :(

Here is a question someone might know the answer to -- is there a fandom-generated name for Eyepatch Guy from Suwa? Never named that I can find in the manga, and episode 40 of the anime just credits him as "Attendant". Have any of the fandom giants here named him for us at all?

Well I know I named him once (have to go back and look for the story where he isn't just Eyepatch Retainer/Dad's best guy friend). However the rest of the fandom may have a different name for him.

For some unfathomable reason, I cannot seem to locate the document...

However, when I looked for Japanese boy names, Hisashi (Always with you), Hansuke (A very helpful friend), Yasahiro (Calm and knowledgeable), and Yo (Honest or truthful) stood out as possibly good names for him.

Yuu, depending on pronunciation could be gentleness, lithe, superior / brave / or distant, leisurely.

Progress this week was slow, because I had to work on an essay, but I think I'm doing well. I'm about 1/3 written and I'm editing as I go, and I'm going to bang out a bunch this weekend. I'll definitely be done on time.

I could definitely benefit from a proofreader, but I'd rather wait until I have most of it written.

I've currently started a 14 hour shift at work and because it's an overnight weekend shift I'll have plenty of time to work. I'm already a few pages deep, here's hoping I'll be able to blast a chuck out tonight (sleep deprivation become my muse). May the fan gods have mercy on my soul.

Update! I just finished my rough draft. It's SUUUUUPER un-edited, but i'm very happy with it so far, and it comes in just shy of 10k words, so not too much for a voter to read in an afternoon. I'm home sick with a cold for at least the next day or so, so I should be able to get a bunch of proofreading and editing done tomorrow in between naps.

Bows head in apology! Once again, I'm late but still in the running ;;; I've been caught up with a team submission for another fandom event tomorrow but will be able to focus on my fic again after that!

In terms of writing, I've got my ideas and paragraphs mapped out in bullet points so I'll just have to string them together and fill in the blanks. I tend to go towards minimalism so waggles fingers, my estimated word count is only between 2k-4k ahahahh good luck to everyone!
