Mod Team and Theme Voting!

Hey KuroFai fans - it looks like we've got a Mod Team! Please give a big warm hand (and maybe even an eye) for our fantastic volunteer mods for this year's KuroFai Olympics!

Mods, if you would be so kind to respond to the below Mod Thread confirming your participation, who'd like to do what in the team and maybe chat amongst yourselves to organise how to decide on prompts and what exact dates we should hold the event this year, that would be fantastic. If yours truly might make a humble suggestion for event dates, I recommend at least six weeks of writing time, and a posting week in late August.

And we don't just have Mods - we've got a list of themes, too! For the sake of simplicity, I've skipped the ones that were very similar to another suggested theme, but we have a grand total of eight suggestions!

Themes:

1. Fire vs. Ice
   
2. Earth vs. Sky
3. Sky vs. Sea
4. Day vs. Night
5. Gods vs. Machines
6. Past vs. Future
7. Tragedy vs. Comedy
8. Hope Vs. Despair
    

To make it easier on the mods this year, it would be fantastic if you could pick your favourite of the themes listed between now and Wednesday the 20th of June. 

In the case of a tie, we'll have a secondary vote-off between the tied themes later, but for now, cast your votes in the Voting Thread below. To make it fair, you only get one vote, you need a dreamwidth account to vote, and you must vote in the thread for it to count. Mods, you can vote too - we want everyone to help us choose.

I'll put up a post on tumblr advertising the vote, so if you could signal boost there, that would be fantastic. We want as many fans as possible to participate in the vote - let's make democracy work, people, and make this year's event the greatest yet!

(Psst - this will be the last you'll hear from me as an organiser - I'm handing the reins over to our hard-working mods, so please give them all the support they need.)

I'm happy to help out. I don't know if it interests anybody, but I'm very good at beta reading, and catching grammar/spelling errors.

So we have prompt voting till Wednesday 20th June. We could then look at having signups open until 30th June with prompts and teams being released on the 1 July.
That gives people 10 days to sign up and gives us 10 days to decide what prompts we want to use once the theme is announced.
We could have fics starting to be posted on 13th or 20th August to give people time to write. Voting and reviewing open till 31 August with winners announced 1 September.

Does that time line seem reasonable to peeps?

I'm the Mod you can come to for research questions - I'll do my best to find the answers you seek - and as an alternative beta.

However for fancier formatting beyond a Read More, I'll defer that to my fellow Mods. I may have taken a class in high school but that was nine years ago.

I wanna see Fire vs. Ice! KuroFai have always made me hot and bothered, and the twists and turns of their relationship give me the chills - it's a no brainer that this one is my vote!

I've got a suggestion, if I may - I think it might be good if we kept up the inclusion of trigger warnings, especially if we end up doing a theme that can go dark places. We wanna make the event fun but not stifle creativity, and I think letting readers be fair-warned if there are difficult themes in fic is a great idea.

(As a side note, and not one I expect mods to enforce but I thought I'd speak up anyway I would really appreciate it if we asked writers not to use themes of sexual violence or abuse - it's a huge trigger for myself (and probably quite a few of us, unfortunately) and I think it would be great if we could avoid it altogether.)
