Harlequin challenge 46: The cat and the baby
This is my first non-drabble KuroFai fic. Also, English is not my first language. Still, I hope everyone enjoys this fic! I'll try to finish it shortly.

Original Prompt: Prompt 46 - One Day to Find a Husband

Finn never lets anyone close, even someone as feisty and intriguing as Ellie. But saying "I do," even when you don't really, has a way of making even the most stubborn people wake up and realize what they've been missing….
"You have got to be kidding me!"
Kurogane looked at Fai, his next door neighbor, as if he was insane. Actually, scratch that, the blonde WAS insane.
Not to mention, that was the worst proposal he has ever heard in his life.
"As much as I would like to agree with you, I will have to say no. I really need someone to be married to so that I will be able to adopt Sakura."
The dark-skinned dentist narrowed his eyes. Oh sure, they lived in the not so perfect world. The community has some serious issues with the citizens being single and free and mostly happy, so the laws were full with the "must be married" requirements for things such as running for the mayor post or, just as in this case, adopting a child. Fai, being single and with no blood relation to the child, would not be able to adopt the little girl Kurogane sometimes saw him babysit and heard him talk about when he accepted the blonde's home made dinner dishes, usually as a thank you for Kurogane who helped take care of his pet Mokona.
Prior to today, Fai was as perfect a neighbor as Kurogane could get. The dentist has always prefered order and quiet and when he moved to this new apartment with lots of space and sunlight and within very short distance from works and other life conveniences, he prayed to everything holy that his one and only neighbor on the same floor was not loud, or nosy, or having too many barking dogs, or with tons of babies, or was a tap dancer. Fai was friendly in a non-intrusive kind of way, kept his place quiet most of the time, and never had a party or loud and obnoxious guests. Their relationship usually consisted of a few hellos here and there when they saw each other leave for work in the morning and of co-owning Mokona, Fai's cat who seemed to prefer Kurogane's balcony to her present owner's. It was undertstandable since the white persian used to belong to the previous tenant of Kurogane's apartment. In other words, Mokona was only given to Fai a few days before Kurogane moved in. The long-eared cat eats and sleeps at Fai's but mostly prows Kurogane's apartment during the day and it was Kurogane who took care of her veterinarian appointments. It was a convenient arrangement for Kurogane who sometimes craved a little non-human contact but not yet prepared for the whole pet owner responsibility deal.
Sparing his neighbor a glance, Kurogane could not help noticing how tired Fai looked. Upon closer inspection, the dentist was able to see smudges of chocolate and bits of sprinkle on the dark shirt that was the blonde’s self-set uniform for work.
Fai owned a little ice cream shop about two blocks from their apartment. Well, he also served cakes and cookies and drinks like smoothies and frappe and milkshakes. Kurogane called the place the cavity genesis. Fai shot back that it was places like his that kept dentists like Kurogane clothed and fed.
He visited Fai's shop from time to time, however, since the blue eyed blonde makes a mean cup of coffee.
In all, Fai was the perfect neighbor and cat co-owner and almost within the "friend" category for Kurogane. To change all these and become the blonde's husband within 24 hours, however, was not on Kurogane's life plan.
"Run it by me again why you decide to give me the honor?"
