Synapses: Guilt. Innocence. Psychologist, body-language expert Youou Kurogane can sense them both, which is why he's so good at his job. Unfortunately, even the innocent are convicted and this time Kurogane’s partially to blame. To help free a wrongfully imprisoned man, he teams up with Fai Fluorite, the one man he can't completely read. They must track down the truth before someone else gets hurt. And to do that, they need to trust each other. Only, the ex-undercover cop has a few secrets he wants to keep, and to Kurogane, not knowing everything is not an option. But some things aren't meant to be shared. Because once they are revealed, they can never be taken back.

Warnings: Cursing. Flashbacks. Memories. And twincest.

Authors note: Yep never writ Harlequin before in my life... So... enjoy???

Title: Spring Comes Late to Colorado (inspirational Harlequin is "Strictly Temporary")
Author: KittenKin
Rating: Teen
Spoilers: None (AU)
Warnings: Minor character death, babies tugging on heartstrings
Summary: (Modified from original Harlequin summary.)
Discovering an abandoned baby in the backseat of a taxi was not on hotelier Fai Fluorite's agenda. Luckily, a stunning stranger comes to his aid—and piques his interest. But before Child Services can arrive, a snowstorm strands the trio in Fai's luxurious Colorado cabin.

Youou Kurogane wants to resist Fai's advances, but Fai's care and concern for him and the baby soon have him melting. As the snow falls and the heat sizzles, it's not long before Kurogane's sleeping in Fai's bed. And he finds himself wondering if their temporary arrangement could have permanent effects...

Notes: I planned to write a 2,000 word or shorter PWP with ridiculous amounts of flair and frills and fucking. I ended up starting a long!fic that will very likely exceed 35,000 words by the time I'm done and can be comfortably slotted in the "Harlequin Heartwarming" shelf instead of in one of Harlequin's more steamy, clothing-ripping categories. I said it before but let me say it again...Reikah was right.

In which it takes me 5,342 words to work my way around to introducing the characters to each other. )

Title: Of Meetings and Duty (original is "Wolf Hunt") (title may change)
Author: tsubasafan
Rating: M ( NC-17 for about three pages)
Spoilers: None
Warnings: sex, mild violence, language, minor angst, minor character death
Notes: So all of this won't be up today as it's on my flash drive (had my computer wiped clean days before) which is at my apartment. I'll be posting the first part or two or three here today though.
Summary: Kurogane continues carrying on with his day to day job of running the family business while trying to juggle between family and his duty as protector. Things begin to change when he meets a hitchhiker in the woods.

Title: Let The Water Lead Us Home (1/?)
Rating: PG for now; eventual Mature rating
Notices/Warnings: Genderbender of het variety, hurt/comfort, angst
Summary: (Modified from original Harlequin summary)
By day Kurogane Steele fights crime—by night he fights the haunting memories of his army days. Until his brooding is interrupted by a beauty sleeping on his couch! Fai Flotilda wants to sell her late father's house and expel the last reminder of her past. But first she has to persuade sexy tenant Kurogane to move out... Then a baby is left on his doorstep. Kurogane and Fai might never have known what family is, but this baby needs one—so they'll need to learn fast!
Author's Notes: Genderswap gurl as always, I am pulling off a het!KuroFai where Fai is female and Kurogane is male. It's my first time doing it this way, but I'm confident I will keep their dynamics intact, regardless of their gender makeup. At first I was hoping to write cheesiness galore ala Harlequin, but alas I plot out a lot of drama, angst, and hurt/comfort along with family fluff. I am very far from finished working on this, as it will be another long fic on my plate.
Disclaimer: If you actually read the excerpt for the story this is based on "The Sheriff's Doorstep Baby" you'd see that I adapted the house scene from the excerpt. I didn't know others would be super liberal in their interpretation of the prompt/excerpt, but the rest of the fic would be full of my own ideas. Also, Kurogane's last name was not in fact influenced by that god-forsaken "50 Shades of Grey". It was from his name, which in canon means - "black steel".

( All things come to an end, like a river that ends into the ocean. But sometimes, the tides of the currents and the sweeping motion of rain leads you back, mercilessly, forcefully, and there is no going back. )

A few people have contacted me to ask about this, so I thought I'd do a brief tutorial for their benefit and any lurkers or other people who might not know. The guide itself is underneath a cut, so that's some sort of... thing.

How to make this dreamwidth cut for your fanfic. )

Hope that helps!

Title: High Horse
Pairing: Kuro/Fai (of course!)
Rating: R
Disclaimer: I have never actually been to Kansas. There is a town by the name of Devil's River, but it is in Texas, not Kansas; and it's actually a perfectly nice little town full of friendly people. I just liked the name.
Notes: So after doing some research, apparently the time frame I was going for in this fic was impossible. I had intended it to be set in Kansas Territory during the Bleeding Kansas period, but that was in the 1850s and the first motorcar didn't appear until 1871 at the very earliest. Well... maybe FWR has special steampunk powers.

Prompt: 11; Renegade Most Wanted

"WANTED: A HUSBAND BEFORE THE DAY IS OUT. MUST HAVE A WICKED STREAK AND THE FASTEST TRIGGER IN THE WEST!"

Fai didn't like to remember the part that came after, when the dream-like life had come crashing down around him. )
