A challenge is not the same as a contest; there are no winners, and nobody will be scored. It's a prompt fest, with a deadline, and this promptfest centres around a specific kind of writing: Bodice Ripper Romance novels.
I'm not just talking romance like, well, most shipping fics are by their nature. I'm talking cheesy, amazingly questionable paperback romance novels, also known as Harlequin or Mills & Boons.
( How this works )
Without further ado, comment here if this looks like something you'd do.
[Olympics] Results!
May. 12th, 2012 01:56 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
And the winning team is... *drumroll*
Team AU!
The full results are below the cut, but out of a theoretical possible 60 points, team canon got 55.59, and team AU got 55.76. It was really close, guys!
( Table of results, powered by Excel: )
Thank you to everyone, all our writers on BOTH teams, and especially to all the readers and voters who made the Olympics possible! Let's do this again next year!
Olympics Voting Officially Open!
Apr. 29th, 2012 12:29 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Voting for the Spring Olympics will remain open until Friday, May 11th; as per several people's requests, I have extended the deadline another week.
( Compilation of the fics is below the cut: )
In response to several peoples' queries, voting WILL be opened to anonymous voters, even those who do not have LiveJournal or Dreamwidth accounts. The only requirement is that when voting, you identify yourself by linking to a fandom-related tumblr, FanFiction.net account, Archive of Our Own page, blog, et cetera. IP tracking will also be turned on to prevent any double-voting.
There's an Official Voter's Code, too! ( Although it's more in the nature of... guidelines. )
Remember we need readers and voters as much as writers to make the Olympics succeed. So come on and do your thing!

Prompt: Flying through the Clouds
Title: Attention All Passengers
Rating: PG
Warnings: Sexism, but that's about it
Author's Note: Last minute understudy to the rescue! I actually have written ficlets for all of the prompts under AU a while back for fun - plus they're all fem!KuroFai. That said, I'm glad I did, even though it's really short, it's better than nothing. This is set with the time era of the 60s and 70s in mind, when flight attendants (read: mostly women) were subjected to beauty standards and misogyny. Lastly, thanks to

Rating: PG-13/Soft R
Warnings: Angst - Kurogane angst, light sexual content towards the end
Spoilers: The entire series, including Kurogane’s past
Author’s Note: I was originally the understudy for the whole event, so I stepped in exactly a week before my post date. So I tried my best girls, I really tried! Many thanks and love to

Author's Note: To mikkeneko and eijentu, who know what they did, and Cloverfield, who gave me the mental image of Kurogane riding a bicycle. ("HIS KNEES WOULD BE EVERYWHERE!")

Prompt: Festival of Light
Title: Illumination
Rating: Some light m/m and references to sex including one f-bomb...otherwise rather G
Spoilers: The entire series (ALL the spoilers!)
Author's Notes: Takes place post-series before the revisit to Piffle mentioned in xXxHolic. My assumption is that Yuuko-san's promise to the group in Tokyo regarding Fai was much like her deal with Watanuki in xXxHolic; subject to modification without the buyer's explicit consent. Caveat emptor.
The name Idia is derived from idiacanthus, the genus to which the black dragonfish - a deep-sea fish that exudes a red light - belongs. The males are teensy and toothless compared to the big bad mommas of the species. I found this amusing.
My heartfelt thanks to Zelinxia, Farenmaddox, Reikah and Mikkeneko for listening to me whine and for providing such loving sounding boards! Thank you also to everyone who left me love and cheers on my status update post. The encouragement was invaluable. <3
Edit @ 1:37 pm PST: Fixed one typo that made Kurogane sound like a total fucking idiot at the most tense and pivotal moment in the entire fic. *headdesks so hard she cracks the world*

Prompt: Idyllic Countryside
Title: Cocoon (Part 3 of 3)
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Fluff, angst, self-harm
Spoilers: Indirect spoilers for Kurogane and Fai's backstories.
Summary: Four travelers arrive in a strange town surrounded by walls, where no one is able to enter or leave. With no memory of who they are or where they're going, will they be able to find a way out - or even last long enough to try?
Author's Note: All the thanks go to eijentu, who assured me multiple times that this story was not boring and I should not throw it out the window. This story is set between the Koryo and Jade/Spirit arcs of the manga -- in other words, it's very, very early in the journey.
Quick cheat sheet:
Kurogane = Pyre
Fai = Fall
Syaoran = Rain
Sakura = Aught
Willow, Frost, Viv, Bubbles = OCs
( Even not knowing his own name, Fai had been kind; even when he had nothing of his own, he'd been generous. When he wasn't playing the fool, he was such a good man. Why did he try to hide that? )
-the end.
